Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Update: Rishab Shetty’s Film Nears ₹500 Crore Worldwide in First Week

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has completed its first week in theatres on a high note, breaking several records in Kannada cinema and making a strong impact overseas, pushing the film closer to the ₹500-crore mark globally.

Box Office Performance

In India, Kantara Chapter 1 has earned ₹335 crore net (₹402 crore gross) in its first eight days. The film opened with a ₹62 crore opening day, maintained growth midweek, and despite a slight drop after day 6, it still collected a healthy ₹20.5 crore net on day 8.

Overseas, the film has earned over $8 million, including $5 million in North America, bringing its worldwide gross to ₹475 crore in just one week. Remarkably, the Kannada film was the highest-grossing film globally last week, surpassing Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl ($50 million) and One Battle After Another (just over $40 million).


Pan-India Success

Kantara Chapter 1 has performed strongly across multiple languages:

  • Kannada and Hindi versions: over ₹100 crore net each in India

  • Telugu version: over ₹60 crore net

  • Malayalam and Tamil dubs: over ₹20 crore each


About Kantara Chapter 1

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. A prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, the story is set 1,000 years before the events of the original film. Praised by both critics and audiences, a third installment, Kantara Chapter 2, has already been announced.
