John Cena Retains, Rhodes and Cargill Crowned: Chaos and Glory at WWE Night of Champions in Riyadh
WWE’s Night of Champions delivered a blockbuster night of drama, surprises, and high-stakes action in Riyadh on Saturday, headlined by John Cena successfully defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against CM Punk in their first singles showdown in over a decade.
What began as a long-awaited clash between two of WWE’s biggest names quickly descended into bedlam, with interference from Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Penta, and Sami Zayn turning the contest into a chaotic spectacle. Despite the mayhem, Cena emerged victorious, setting up a headline rematch against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
Rhodes earned his shot earlier in the night by winning the King of the Ring tournament, defeating Randy Orton in a grueling final. It marked Orton’s second consecutive runner-up finish in the prestigious tournament, while Rhodes celebrated a career-defining victory and wasted no time declaring his SummerSlam ambitions.
On the women’s side, Jade Cargill continued her meteoric rise by overpowering Asuka to claim the Queen of the Ring crown. The win places Cargill in title contention at SummerSlam, although the women’s championship landscape remains crowded, with Tiffany Stratton as the reigning champion, Naomi holding the Money in the Bank briefcase, and the all-women’s Evolution event looming.
The night’s only title change came when Solo Sikoa defeated Jacob Fatu, aided by a surprise alliance that included JC Mateo, a returning Tonga Loa, and the WWE debut of former NJPW standout Hikuleo. The new faction left a lasting impression with their dominant display.
Other highlights from Riyadh included Rhea Ripley defeating Raquel Rodriguez in a brutal street fight — a first-of-its-kind stipulation for WWE in Saudi Arabia — and local favorite Sami Zayn securing a rousing win over Karrion Kross, igniting the Riyadh crowd.
As the 11th edition of Night of Champions wrapped up, it reinforced Riyadh’s status as a vital stop on WWE’s global tour and set the stage for a thrilling build toward SummerSlam.
