JD Vance Assures He Can Take Over if President Trump Faces ‘Terrible Tragedy’
US Vice President JD Vance has said he is prepared to assume the presidency in the event of a “terrible tragedy,” while reaffirming that President Donald Trump is in “great health” and capable of completing his term. Vance made the remarks in an interview with USA Today on Thursday.
“I feel very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people,” Vance said. “And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.” The Vice President is 41 years old.
Vance’s comments come amid public speculation about Trump’s health after the president was recently seen with a bruise on his hand during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. The White House has downplayed concerns, attributing the mark to “frequent, forceful handshakes and the use of aspirin.” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized Trump’s vigorous schedule and constant interaction with the public.
Earlier, photos and videos showing swelling on Trump’s lower legs went viral. White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella confirmed in July that the president has chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition in people over 70.
