Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day official visit to India, during which she will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to boost cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defence and other strategic sectors.

This is Takaichi’s first official visit to India. She is visiting from July 1 to 3 at Modi’s invitation to participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said earlier.

Takaichi shared pictures of her arrival in India on X, following which Modi welcomed her and said India was pleased to host her on her first visit to the country.

“A very warm welcome to India, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi,” Modi posted.

He added that he looked forward to discussions aimed at further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and advancing peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

According to an MEA advisory issued on June 30, Takaichi will meet Modi at Hyderabad House on Thursday for bilateral discussions.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also welcomed the Japanese leader’s arrival, saying the visit marks an important step in taking forward the partnership between the two countries.

“The Summit will provide an opportunity for both sides to review and strengthen the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation as well as exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest,” the MEA said.
