External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar wrapped up his visit to the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Canada’s Niagara region with two key multilateral sessions and a renewed focus on strengthening India-Canada relations.

During the outreach session on Energy Security and Critical Minerals, Jaishankar flagged concerns over “unpredictability and market constrictions in global supply” and called for greater international coordination. “The key, however, is to translate that on the ground. India is open to working constructively with international partners in this regard,” he said.

At another session on Maritime Security and Prosperity, he underlined the “imperative of trusted and diversified maritime links” and India’s push to enhance its shipping infrastructure and build resilient trade corridors. He urged better coordination among nations to safeguard critical maritime and undersea infrastructure.

On the sidelines, Jaishankar held a string of bilateral meetings. He met Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha for what he described as a “useful conversation” and later discussed the India-EU Strategic Partnership with European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

He also met Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss “bilateral ties, regional hotspots, connectivity and energy.”

Jaishankar began his day with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and concluded it with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand — a meeting that marked a new chapter in the ongoing reset of India-Canada relations. Anand called India an “important partner for Canada,” while Canada’s foreign ministry, Global Affairs Canada, said the meeting reflected “momentum in the bilateral relationship.”

Jaishankar completed his engagements on Wednesday afternoon before departing for India.
