Israeli military says missiles launched from Iran toward Israel

Israel said Wednesday it detected missiles launched from Iran and activated its air defence systems as it carried out a new “wave” of strikes against targets in Iran and Lebanon.

“A short while ago, the Israel Defense Forces identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the military said on its official Telegram channel.

Journalists with AFP reported air raid sirens sounding across Jerusalem, followed by the sound of explosions in the distance. A short time later, the military said civilians were allowed to leave shelters.

Israel’s emergency service Magen David Adom said there were no immediate reports of serious injuries but its teams were treating “a small number of people who were injured on their way to protected areas.”

Israeli broadcaster Channel 12 (Israel) reported several injuries from the Iranian strikes near Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had targeted a satellite communications centre in Haifa, along with Israeli military bases and US-linked targets elsewhere in the Middle East, including Iraqi Kurdistan and the base of the United States Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.

“We will continue our sustained attacks with purpose and power, and in this war, we contemplate nothing but the enemy’s complete surrender,” the Guards said in a statement carried by their website Sepah News.
