Iran Strikes Back at Israel After Targeted Airstrikes Kill Top Generals, Raising Global Alarm

Iran launched a wave of retaliatory missile and drone strikes on Israel following a deadly Israeli operation targeting key nuclear and military infrastructure in Tehran. The escalation marks one of the most dangerous flashpoints between the two regional rivals in recent years.

As Iranian drones and ballistic missiles flew toward Israeli territory, air-raid sirens sounded across northern Israel and the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. Civilians were urged to take shelter as the conflict entered a perilous new phase.

What Triggered the Retaliation?

The Iranian strikes came in response to Israeli airstrikes carried out under ‘Operation Rising Lion’, which targeted nuclear sites and military facilities deep inside Iranian territory. The Israeli assault reportedly killed several top Iranian commanders, including Major General Hossein Salami, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, and the Armed Forces Chief of Staff, General Mohammad Bagheri.

In a statement justifying the strikes, Israel claimed to have intelligence suggesting that Iran’s nuclear program was approaching the “point of no return.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the operation as necessary for Israel’s national security.

“This was a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival,” Netanyahu said. “It will continue for as long as needed to eliminate that threat.”

Iran’s Vow for Revenge

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded with a stern warning. In a televised address on Friday, he promised that Israel would face severe consequences for what he called a “great crime.”

“They must not think it is over,” Khamenei said. “They initiated this war, and we will not let them escape unpunished.”

Global Fallout and Reactions

The conflict has prompted urgent calls for restraint from world leaders. The United Nations urged “maximum restraint,” while China expressed deep concern over the escalation. France called on both nations to avoid actions that could further destabilize the region.

Meanwhile, Iran issued a stark warning to Western powers, threatening to strike U.S., U.K., and French bases and naval assets if they assist Israel in blocking Iranian retaliation.

Both Iran and Israel have closed their airspace amid rising tensions, and military readiness on both sides remains high.

The United States clarified that it was not involved in Israel’s strikes on Iran. However, American forces reportedly helped intercept some of the Iranian drones aimed at Israeli targets.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington’s priority was the safety of its forces in the region, stating, “We are not part of the strikes on Iran. Our focus remains the protection of American personnel and interests.”
