Iran-Israel War Live Updates: 8 Dead, Over 130 Injured in Iranian Strikes on Israel
Israel and Iran exchanged a fresh barrage of missile attacks overnight into Sunday, intensifying a conflict that has now entered its third consecutive day and raising fears of a broader regional war.
The escalation followed Israel’s expansion of its surprise offensive, which included a strike on Iran’s defence ministry headquarters in Tehran and an attack on the world’s largest gas field. Israel’s military also claimed it hit several sites allegedly linked to Iran’s nuclear weapons program—despite U.S. intelligence and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) maintaining that Iran was not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon prior to Israel’s airstrikes on Friday.
Adding to tensions, Israeli officials confirmed that another wave of Iranian missiles is currently inbound.
Key Developments:
-
Civilian Casualties in Israel: Overnight Iranian strikes killed at least eight people, including children. According to AFP, a rocket attack in central Israel claimed the lives of four individuals, including a 10-year-old boy, and injured around 100 others. Millions of residents were forced to take shelter as air raid sirens rang out across the country.
-
New Iranian Missile Wave: Iranian state television announced at 3:10 a.m. local time (11:40 p.m. GMT Saturday) that a fresh phase of “Operation Honest Promise 3” had begun, showing live footage from inside Israel. The operation marks the third consecutive day of escalating cross-border attacks.
-
Iran’s Targets and Warnings: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed that they struck facilities used by Israeli fighter jets for refuelling, as well as critical energy infrastructure. “If attacks against Iran continue, our response will be more fierce and broad,” a statement from the Guards read.
-
Diplomacy Derailed: Iran cancelled planned nuclear negotiations in Oman, derailing U.S. hopes for de-escalation. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said talks could not proceed under current circumstances, condemning Israeli strikes as “barbarous.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the attacks and warned Iran that it had seen only a fraction of Israel’s potential response.
-
Further Strikes and Infrastructure Damage: Israel confirmed additional Iranian missile launches late Saturday and said it was continuing to intercept them. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also claimed to be targeting military sites in and around Tehran. Iranian media confirmed damage to the Shahran oil depot and a fire at a nearby oil refinery. Tasnim News Agency reported minor damage to the defence ministry in Tehran.
-
Trump Reacts: Former U.S. President Donald Trump responded to the crisis by warning Iran of “harsher consequences” if it continues its attacks. However, he also left open the possibility of a diplomatic path, stating that Israel’s military campaign could still be halted—if Iran agrees to scale back its nuclear ambitions. The scrapping of talks in Oman complicates that possibility.
