IPCC CEO appointed as the Honorary Trade Commissioner of Uruguay
Dr Mandeep Singh Chhatwal, CEO of the Intellectual Punjabi Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed as the Honorary Trade Commissioner of Uruguay.
India and Uruguay established diplomatic relations in 1948, and ties have strengthened in recent years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in July 2025. Bilateral trade between the two nations is currently growing at over 20% year-on-year. Notably, Uruguay backed India’s successful bid for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for the 2015–17 term.
On his appointment, Dr Chhatwal said: “I am keen to work for strengthening the relations between Uruguay and India under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency Alberto A. Guani, the Ambassador of Uruguay to India.”
