IndiGo Flight to Goa Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai After Mid-Air Engine Issue
A Goa-bound IndiGo flight (6E 6271) from Delhi made an emergency landing at Mumbai airport on Wednesday night after the pilot issued a “PAN PAN PAN” alert due to an engine malfunction.
The Airbus A320neo, carrying 191 passengers, had taken off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and was en route to Goa when the issue emerged mid-air. Officials said the flight was flying approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar when the pilot reported a problem with engine number 1.
“The pilot declared ‘PAN PAN PAN’—an international urgency signal used to indicate a situation that is serious but not immediately life-threatening,” a senior airport official told Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity.
The flight was diverted and safely landed at Mumbai airport at 9:53 pm.
Airport and airline authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the engine malfunction. All passengers were reported safe, and alternative travel arrangements were reportedly being made.
This is the latest in a series of precautionary emergency landings involving Indian carriers in recent months, raising continued focus on aircraft safety and maintenance standards.
