IndiGo, Akasa Air Issue Travel Advisory as Heavy Rains Disrupt Mumbai
IndiGo and Akasa Air have urged passengers to plan ahead and check flight status before leaving for the airport, as heavy rainfall has triggered waterlogging and traffic snarls across Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several parts of the city.
In their advisories posted on X, both airlines cautioned that delays are likely due to flooding on key airport routes. IndiGo noted that waterlogging could affect travel time and asked flyers to use its app or website to track flight updates. The airline added that its teams are working to support passengers.
Akasa Air also flagged possible congestion in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa and Pune, advising travellers to allow extra time to reach the airport.
Mumbai has been lashed by heavy downpours for days, with some areas receiving over 200 mm of rain. Visuals showed severe waterlogging in Gandhi Market, Kings Circle, SCLR Bridge and Malad Subway. Air operations have also been hit, with 15 go-arounds and two diversions reported on Saturday.
Apart from Mumbai, heavy rain warnings are in place for Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts, with the IMD forecasting intense showers over Maharashtra until August 21.
