Indian Army Thwarts Infiltration Bid in Uri Sector; One Soldier Killed in Ongoing Exchange of Fire
The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector, Baramulla district, on Wednesday. One soldier was killed in the exchange of fire, PTI reported.
According to initial reports, the infiltration may have been backed by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), involving a “strike by terrorists” near Tikka Post in the Uri sector. The incident occurred in the Area of Responsibility of 16 Sikh LI (09 Bihar Advance Party) under the jurisdiction of Police Station Uri. While media reports claim one soldier’s death, official confirmation from the Army is awaited.
Firing was still underway on Wednesday morning, and further details are awaited.
The development comes just a day after Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar lost his life during operational duty along the LoC in Baramulla. In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps paid tribute, saluting his “immense valour and sacrifice” and extending condolences to his family.
Earlier, on Monday, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi mourned the loss of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, who were killed in Operation Kulgam during anti-terror operations in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The Integrated Defence Staff said the armed forces stood firmly with the bereaved families in their hour of grief.
