External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said India is concerned about recent developments in Venezuela and urged all parties involved to engage in dialogue to prioritise the well-being and safety of the Venezuelan people.

Speaking at a press engagement in Luxembourg, Jaishankar emphasised that India’s primary concern is the welfare of Venezuelans amid the escalating political situation. “Yes, we are concerned at the developments… we would really urge all the parties involved to now sit down and come to a position which is in the interest of the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela,” he said.

The minister highlighted India’s longstanding ties with Venezuela, noting that New Delhi hopes the country — with which it has had “very good relations” — can emerge from the crisis in a stable and positive way.

India’s remarks come as the situation in Venezuela remains tense following a high-profile U.S. military operation that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who are now in U.S. custody facing federal charges. The unfolding events have drawn global reactions and concerns about regional stability.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also urged Indian nationals to exercise caution, issuing advisories for those in or planning travel to Venezuela and reaffirming India’s commitment to the safety of its citizens abroad.

India’s foreign policy stance underscores its preference for peaceful resolution through dialogue and de-escalation, while closely monitoring developments in the South American nation.
