India Successfully Tests Rail-Launched Agni-Prime Missile
India on Thursday successfully test-fired the intermediate-range Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher, marking a first-of-its-kind exercise for the country.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the launch, carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), as a demonstration of innovation in the specially designed rail-based mobile system. The Agni-Prime missile has a range of up to 2,000 kilometres.
Singh highlighted that the successful test places India among a select group of nations capable of deploying a canisterised missile launch system from an on-the-move rail network.
“Congratulations to DRDO, Strategic Forces Command, and the Armed Forces on the successful test of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime missile,” Singh said, calling the flight test a major milestone in India’s strategic capabilities.
