India Slams Pakistan PM Sharif at UNGA, Accuses Islamabad of Glorifying Terrorism and Spreading Lies
India hit back at Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech at the UN General Assembly, accusing him of glorifying terrorism and distorting facts about the recent conflict.
Exercising the right of reply, Petal Gahlot, first secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said Sharif’s address amounted to “absurd theatrics.” She told the assembly, “No degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts… When senior Pakistani officials glorify notorious terrorists, can there be any doubt about the proclivities of this regime?”
Sharif had claimed that seven Indian jets were damaged during May’s four-day Operation Sindoor. India, however, maintains its forces shot down five Pakistani fighter aircraft and a large plane while targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26.
Gahlot reminded the UN that Pakistan shielded “The Resistance Front” — a group accused of massacring tourists in Jammu and Kashmir — at the UN Security Council earlier this year. She also invoked Pakistan’s record of sheltering Osama bin Laden and running terror camps, calling Islamabad’s posture “duplicity at the highest level.”
In his speech, Sharif praised US President Donald Trump as a “man of peace” who helped broker the latest ceasefire and said Pakistan had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. He again raised Kashmir, warned against India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and accused New Delhi of sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistan.
India, for its part, insists the ceasefire was reached through direct military talks between the two sides.
