In a powerful address at the University of Oxford, Telangana’s former IT and Industries Minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) underscored India’s rising global stature and positioned Telangana as a model for inclusive, innovation-led development. Speaking at a special lecture hosted by the Oxford India Society, KTR asserted, “India is the future, and Telangana will continue to tell its story of ambition, resilience, and progress.”

The event, attended by students, scholars, entrepreneurs, and diplomats, was part of KTR’s ongoing international outreach to build awareness about Telangana’s growth narrative and attract global collaborations.

India’s Time on the World Stage

KTR began his speech by placing India in the context of shifting global power dynamics. “We are not just a country with 1.4 billion people,” he said. “We are a reservoir of ideas, talent, and innovation. As the world searches for sustainable growth and digital transformation, India is not only ready — we are leading.”

Referring to India’s robust tech ecosystem, expanding digital infrastructure, and demographic dividend, KTR called India “the single biggest force shaping the global economic order of the 21st century.”

Telangana: A Microcosm of Aspirational India

KTR used Telangana’s success story as a tangible example of how good governance, inclusive policies, and investment in human capital can produce transformative results. He outlined key initiatives such as:

  • TS-iPASS (Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-certification System) for ease of doing business

  • T-Hub and WE-Hub for nurturing startups and women entrepreneurs

  • Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya for rural water access and tank rejuvenation

  • Hyderabad Pharma City and Genome Valley for life sciences and biotech leadership

He remarked, “Telangana was born out of struggle but chose the path of progress. Today, it is not just competing within India, but inspiring internationally.”

Global Partnerships & Knowledge Diplomacy

Speaking directly to the academic community at Oxford, KTR urged students and faculty to consider Telangana as a partner in research, innovation, and sustainable development.

“Whether it’s climate tech, digital public infrastructure, or biotechnology, we are ready to collaborate. Telangana is open for ideas and investment,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of knowledge diplomacy, stating that “intellectual exchange must become the bedrock of India–UK relations in the coming decades.”

Youth, Culture, and Soft Power

KTR spoke passionately about India’s youth, noting that “our young population is not a challenge but a phenomenal opportunity. With the right support, they will create not just the next Google, but the next 100 Googles.”

Highlighting India’s cultural soft power, he referenced the global appeal of yoga, Ayurveda, cinema, and cuisine, stating that “India’s story isn’t just about GDP. It’s about values, diversity, and ideas that resonate with the world.”

KTR ended his lecture with a rousing call to action: “The next century belongs to those who build. India is building. Telangana is building. Join us — as friends, partners, and storytellers — in shaping this incredible future.”

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A with Oxford students, where KTR addressed questions on climate policy, AI, global governance, and India’s startup ecosystem.
