Heavy Rains Lash Delhi; IMD Forecasts Wet Spell Until August 3
Heavy rain drenched parts of Delhi on Tuesday morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of continued intense showers in the next few hours and a prolonged wet spell across the capital through the week.
In its latest nowcast, the IMD said:
“Intense to very intense spells of rain are very likely to continue over many parts of Delhi and the NCR during the next 1–2 hours.”
The IMD’s regional centre in New Delhi also forecast generally cloudy skies, with light rain expected at most places and moderate rain with thunderstorms or lightning at isolated spots throughout the day.
Looking ahead, the forecast from July 31 to August 3 predicts partly cloudy skies, along with very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms or lightning.
On Monday, several parts of the capital were already affected by heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions across key areas.
Authorities have advised residents to stay alert, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones, as the monsoon activity is expected to remain active over the coming days.
