Heavy Rains Disrupt Traffic and Flights in Delhi-NCR; Airport Issues Advisory
Incessant rainfall in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday disrupted road traffic and led to flight delays and diversions, prompting the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to issue a travel advisory.
Despite the poor weather, the Delhi airport stated that “all flight operations are currently normal,” adding that ground teams were coordinating with stakeholders to ensure smooth passenger movement. However, it advised travelers to opt for alternative transport such as the Delhi Metro to avoid road delays caused by waterlogging and traffic snarls.
According to a PTI report, six flights were diverted—four to Jaipur and two to Lucknow—while several others were delayed.
Multiple airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, issued separate advisories urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. IndiGo also recommended leaving early due to heavy traffic and road flooding in several parts of the city.
SpiceJet cautioned that “all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected” due to bad weather, directing passengers to monitor flight updates online.
Heavy rainfall was reported in several NCR regions, including Noida and Ghaziabad, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Wednesday night. Thursday is also expected to see a generally cloudy sky with moderate rainfall.
Waterlogging and traffic congestion were reported in areas like GRG Road and BD Marg, leading to long jams as commuters struggled through flooded roads.
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 35.6°C and a minimum of 26.4°C on Wednesday. The air quality remained in the satisfactory category, with an AQI of 81 at 4 PM.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and further advisories are expected if the weather worsens.
