“Heavy Rain Leaves Large Parts of Kolkata Waterlogged Ahead of Durga Puja”

Kolkata reeled under heavy rainfall that lasted nearly seven hours from Monday night into early Tuesday, inundating large parts of the city, police and government officials said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast that a low-pressure trough moving north over Kolkata and South 24 Parganas would trigger heavy showers within 24 hours. The agency also warned of another spell of rain around September 25, putting community puja organizers on alert.

“We have received emergency instructions to run drainage pumps to clear the roads,” a Kolkata Municipal Corporation official said.
