Heavy Rain in Mumbai: IndiGo, SpiceJet Advise Passengers on Travel
Mumbai woke up to heavy rainfall on Monday morning, causing severe waterlogging and traffic congestion across multiple parts of the city. The downpour prompted airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air to issue travel advisories, warning passengers of possible flight disruptions and slow road travel to the airport.
Airlines Advisory
IndiGo, at 8:37 am, stated that heavy rain was affecting air traffic, causing minor flight delays. “Our teams are working closely with air traffic control and will get you moving as soon as conditions allow,” the airline said, urging passengers to check flight status and allow extra travel time.
SpiceJet similarly warned that “all departures/arrivals and consequential flights may be affected” due to bad weather in Mumbai, while Akasa Air advised travelers to plan ahead for road congestion en route to the airport.
IMD Alerts & Road Impact
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Mumbai city, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Pune, and Nashik, while Raigad, Palghar, and Nandurbar were under an orange alert.
Intense rains caused waterlogging at key locations including Sion’s Gandhi Market and the Eastern Express Highway. The Western Express Highway also faced heavy congestion, slowing vehicular movement.
A few days ago, heavy rain had similarly disrupted flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, delaying around 21 flights and causing over 40 to run behind schedule.
