Hamas Rejects UN Resolution Calling for International Force in Gaza
Gaza’s Hamas authorities on Monday rejected a newly passed UN Security Council resolution that calls for deploying an international stabilization force in the territory, saying the measure ignores the “demands and rights” of the Palestinian people.
“This resolution does not meet the level of our Palestinian people’s political and humanitarian demands and rights,” the Islamist group said in a statement.
Hamas condemned provisions that would establish an international force whose mandate includes the disarmament of Palestinian factions in Gaza. The group said the plan effectively imposes “an international trusteeship on the Gaza Strip, which our people, its forces, and its constituent groups reject.”
The UN Security Council earlier approved a US-drafted resolution supporting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which envisions both the deployment of the international force and a pathway toward a future Palestinian state. The measure passed with 13 votes in favor and abstentions from Russia and China, but no vetoes — a result the United States hailed as “historic and constructive.”
