Hamas Commanders’ Widows Reportedly Fled Gaza, One Remarries in Turkey
Months after Hamas military commander Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces, his widow, Samar Abu Zamer, is reported to have fled Gaza and remarried in Turkey, according to Israeli news outlet Ynet.
Abu Zamer is said to have crossed into Egypt via the Rafah border using forged documents, in an escape allegedly orchestrated through high-level coordination, substantial financial backing, and logistical support. Her new marriage in Turkey was reportedly arranged by senior Hamas political bureau member Fathi Hammad.
In January, the Israeli military released footage showing Abu Zamer and her children entering a Hamas tunnel, fueling speculation that they had gone underground. However, Ynet, citing local sources, later reported she had already left Gaza and relocated to Turkey.
“She crossed through the Rafah border using a fake passport,” a source told Ynet, emphasizing the scale of resources required for the escape — resources far beyond the reach of ordinary Gazans.
Abu Zamer had previously drawn criticism after a video surfaced of her in a Hamas tunnel carrying a luxury Hermes Birkin handbag, sparking outrage online.
Her remarriage reportedly occurred just months after Yahya Sinwar’s death.
Focus on Another Commander’s Widow
Attention has also turned to Najwa Sinwar, the wife of Yahya Sinwar’s brother, Muhammad Sinwar, who was also killed in an Israeli strike. Her current whereabouts remain unconfirmed.
According to Israeli security officials cited by Ynet, both Samar Abu Zamer and Najwa Sinwar had left Gaza via the Rafah crossing before their husbands were killed. However, Hamas has made no public acknowledgment of their departures.
Anger Among Gazans
The revelations have deepened public frustration in Gaza. “They send their children to study in Turkey and Qatar and send ours to the grave,” one resident, who survived recent Israeli airstrikes, told Ynet. “What makes them different from any corrupt ruler in the Arab world? They only look after themselves.”
Evacuation Network Allegations
Regional observers say Hamas has long operated a covert evacuation network to relocate leaders’ families during times of war. The system allegedly involves forged passports, fake medical documentation, and collaboration with friendly diplomatic missions.
Neither Hamas nor Turkish authorities have publicly responded to the latest reports.
