Greater Noida Medical Student Suicide: Father Alleges Mental Harassment by Faculty, Evidence Tampering

The tragic death of a 21-year-old medical student at Sharda University in Greater Noida has sparked outrage, with the victim’s father alleging sustained mental harassment by faculty members and accusing the university of destroying evidence related to her suicide.

The student was found dead in her room at Mandela Hostel in Sharda University’s Knowledge Park campus on Friday night, with the initial investigation pointing to suicide.

Father Alleges Faculty Harassment

Speaking to police, the grieving father said his daughter had been under “immense mental pressure” due to mistreatment by certain faculty members. Despite raising concerns with university authorities just days before her death, he claimed no action was taken.

“She told us her work wouldn’t be approved, and that she would be barred from exams. The next day, she was gone,” he told police.

According to the FIR, the student had confided in her father about repeated humiliation in class and threats of academic repercussions, prompting him to visit the campus on July 14. He said he met with the dean, HOD, and faculty members, who verbally assured him the harassment would stop — but the situation reportedly continued unchanged.

Arrests and Suicide Note

A suicide note recovered from the student’s room reportedly named two faculty members, both of whom have since been arrested. In total, seven people — including six university staff and one unidentified person — have been booked under various charges related to the incident.

The note is said to detail the harassment and intimidation the student faced, forming the basis of the police action so far.

Claims of Evidence Destruction

In a serious allegation included in the FIR, the victim’s father also accused university authorities of destroying evidence linked to her suicide. While police have not yet commented on this specific claim, the case continues to draw scrutiny from student groups and rights organizations demanding accountability.

Ongoing Investigation

Greater Noida Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that more arrests could follow based on the findings.

The case has reignited debates over mental health on campus, the role of faculty conduct, and institutional accountability in private universities, as calls grow louder for a transparent and impartial probe.
