Government pushes digital payments in schools to promote Ease of Living and Schooling
The Government of India is promoting Ease of Living and Schooling through extensive legislative, policy, and institutional reforms, a release said on Saturday.
In a first-of-its-kind move, the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education has urged States, Union Territories (UTs), and other stakeholders to adopt Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for school-related financial transactions. The aim is to modernize administrative processes and make fee collection more efficient and transparent.
The Department highlighted the growing use of digital payment platforms like UPI, mobile wallets, and net banking, encouraging NCERT, CBSE, KVS, NVS, and all States/UTs to explore systems that allow schools to collect admission and examination fees digitally.
Switching from cash to digital payments offers multiple benefits:
-
Convenience for parents and students to pay from home.
-
Transparency in financial transactions.
-
Efficiency in school administrative processes.
The Department emphasized that this step aligns educational administration with the Government’s broader Digital Transformation goals, while also enhancing financial literacy among stakeholders.
This initiative is expected to contribute to the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, fostering a digitally empowered, inclusive, and citizen-centric education system.
