G7 Summit 2026: Ukraine support, Iran peace deal and Modi-Trump meeting in focus on final day

The 52nd G7 Summit entered its final day in the French resort town of Evian, with global leaders set to discuss pressing geopolitical and economic challenges, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, global security, trade and migration.

Leaders from the G7 nations — the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada — were joined by invited partners including India, Brazil, Kenya and South Korea for the annual gathering.

A key event on Wednesday’s agenda is the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. The talks come at a sensitive moment in India-US relations, amid disagreements over tariffs, trade issues and the broader fallout from tensions involving Iran.

On Tuesday, G7 leaders reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia, praising Kyiv’s resilience and recent battlefield progress while expressing solidarity with civilians affected by attacks on critical infrastructure and cultural sites.

The grouping also welcomed the recently announced US-Iran peace agreement, describing it as an important step toward reducing hostilities in West Asia and restoring stability to key global trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

Leaders called for an end to violence in the occupied West Bank and voiced concern over North Korea’s nuclear programme, while urging Pyongyang to address the issue of abducted foreign nationals and curb cybercrime and cryptocurrency theft activities.

Beyond geopolitical issues, the summit also focused on a range of global challenges, including tackling migrant smuggling networks, strengthening efforts against cancer, responding to Ebola outbreaks and combating international drug trafficking.
