The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP and JD(U), appeared set for a sweeping victory in the Bihar assembly elections, crossing the 200-seat mark as the Election Commission of India (ECI) continued counting votes on Friday. Early trends gave the NDA a commanding lead over the Mahagathbandhan — primarily comprising the RJD and Congress — which struggled to touch even 35 seats.

The ECI began counting at 8 a.m. on November 14, starting with postal ballots, followed by EVMs. While no official results were declared until 3 p.m., trends for all constituencies were available on the commission’s website, showing the NDA well beyond the majority mark of 122 in the 243-member assembly.

Voting for the Bihar polls was held in two phases: November 6 and November 11.
