FIR filed after advocate hurls shoe at Supreme Court judges during proceedings; case transferred to Delhi police
An FIR has been lodged in Bengaluru after an advocate allegedly hurled a shoe at the judges’ dais during proceedings at the Supreme Court of India. The FIR was filed with the Vidhana Soudha Police.
According to the FIR, the incident took place on October 6 in Court Hall No. 1 of the Supreme Court, between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., while Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinodh Chandran were presiding. The advocate involved has been identified as Rakesh Kishore.
The FIR was registered on Tuesday evening following a written complaint by Bhaktavachala, 73, President of the All India Advocates Association. It was filed as Crime Number ZERO-0001/2025, a Zero FIR, since the incident occurred outside Bengaluru’s jurisdiction.
The FIR cites Sections 132 and 133 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, concerning assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant and with intent to dishonour a person.
In the complaint, the association condemned the act as a “grave incident” and an affront to the judiciary’s dignity. It stated, “When it happens in the highest judiciary, i.e., to the Chief Justice of India, the act of Rakesh Kishore is not pardonable or acceptable by any section of society and is punishable.”
The association called the incident a national concern and urged immediate police action, including the arrest of the accused, to protect the judiciary’s image.
After the FIR registration, the Vidhana Soudha Police transferred the case to Tilak Marg Police Station in New Delhi, which has territorial jurisdiction over the Supreme Court.
