In a post on X, Patel said, “The @FBI and partners foiled another potential New Year’s Eve attack from an individual allegedly inspired by ISIS. @FBICharlotte will be speaking at a press conference shortly with more details.” He added, “Thanks to our great partners for working with us and undoubtedly saving lives.”

In a separate post, the Charlotte field office of the FBI said the alleged New Year’s Eve terror plot was planned in North Carolina.

At a briefing, an FBI official said the accused was identified as 18-year-old Christan Sturdivant, who had allegedly been planning the attack for about a year. The official said Sturdivant was accused of planning the attack with support from ISIS and has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation, namely ISIS.
