When world leaders gathered in Tianjin, China, for the SCO summit, the event carried an unmistakable message of defiance against US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

What drew the most attention was the striking display of camaraderie between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The sight of the three powerful leaders walking together, exchanging pointed remarks, and even carpooling — without Washington in the picture — captured global attention, especially in the West.

US political commentator Van Jones described the moment as a “sign of a new world order” that is “not good for the US.” Speaking on CNN, he warned, “We’re going to look back on today historically as a very big deal. That image of Xi Jinping with Putin, with Modi from India, alongside the leaders of Iran and North Korea, should send a chill down the spine of every American.”
