European Union leaders on Friday agreed to extend a massive interest-free loan to Ukraine to support its military and economic needs over the next two years, EU Council President Antonio Costa said.
“We have a deal. The decision to provide €90 billion in support to Ukraine for 2026–27 has been approved. We committed, we delivered,” Costa wrote on social media, without detailing how the funds would be raised.
The agreement followed overnight negotiations, during which EU leaders sought to reassure Belgium by offering guarantees to shield it from potential Russian retaliation if it backed the loan.
