England Cross 300 in T20Is, Surpass India’s Mark; Salt Sets New Record
England stormed into the record books on Friday, becoming the first Test-playing nation to breach the 300-run mark in T20 internationals after piling up 304/2 against South Africa at Old Trafford. The hosts went on to clinch the second T20I by a massive 146 runs.
Phil Salt headlined the carnage with a career-best 141* off 60 balls, smashing 15 fours and eight sixes. It was the highest individual T20I score by an England batter and the fastest England century across formats, coming in just 39 deliveries. Jos Buttler added a blistering 83 off 30 balls, while Harry Brook (41* off 21) and Jacob Bethell (26 off 15) ensured the momentum never dipped.
The total eclipsed India’s 297/6 against Bangladesh in 2024, which stood as the highest T20I score by a Full Member nation.
Chasing 305, South Africa folded for 158 inside 17 overs, with skipper Aiden Markram (41) offering the only resistance. Jofra Archer marked his return with figures of 3/25.
