ED Raids AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj in Hospital Scam Probe
The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday raided the residence of AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj in connection with an alleged hospital construction scam. Bharadwaj, who represents the Greater Kailash constituency, has held important portfolios including Health, Urban Development and Water, besides serving as Chairman of the Delhi Jal Board and being one of AAP’s chief spokespersons.
AAP has slammed the raids, calling the case “fake” and pointing out that it relates to a period when Bharadwaj was not a minister.
Why is ED investigating Bharadwaj?
According to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Bharadwaj and former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain are accused of corruption in health infrastructure projects.
The ACB claims that 24 hospital projects—11 new and 13 upgrades—were sanctioned in 2018–19 at a cost of ₹5,590 crore, but have suffered “inexplicable delays and astronomical cost overruns,” pointing to “large-scale financial embezzlement.”
It further alleged “massive irregularities, unexplained delays and misappropriation of funds” in the construction of hospitals, polyclinics and ICU wings. The case was registered after approval under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, following a detailed complaint in August 2024 from then Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta.
ED Raids on AAP Leaders Continue
Bharadwaj joins a growing list of AAP leaders under ED scrutiny. Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal were raided in the Delhi excise policy case, Satyendar Jain faced raids over the Jal Board scam, and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan was probed in a money laundering case.
