Dream11 Ends Sponsorship of Indian Cricket Team After Online Gaming Bill Passage

Fantasy sports platform Dream11 has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that it will no longer sponsor the Indian cricket team, following the passage of The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill in Parliament. The move leaves the board looking for a new sponsor ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins September 9 in the UAE.

According to the Indian Express, Dream11 representatives met BCCI officials in Mumbai and conveyed their decision to CEO Hemang Amin. The board is now expected to float a fresh tender.

“Dream11 informed us they won’t be able to continue… As a result, they won’t be the team’s sponsors for the Asia Cup. The BCCI will float a new tender soon,” a board official said.

Officials added that the company is unlikely to face penalties, as a clause in the contract exempts sponsors from liability if changes in law affect their core business.

Dream11, valued at $8 billion, became the Indian team’s lead sponsor in July 2023 with a three-year, ₹358 crore deal, replacing Byju’s. The company has since established a strong presence in cricket, including partnerships with the IPL, CPL, New Zealand’s Super Smash, and Australia’s Big Bash League, in addition to being an ICC partner.

Beyond cricket, Dream11 also holds deals with the Indian Super League, Pro Kabaddi League, and International Hockey Federation.
