Donald Trump hails Israel as ‘courageous, bold, loyal and smart’ amid Iran war tensions
Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, a fragile Israel-Lebanon ceasefire and uncertainty surrounding an Iran-US truce, Donald Trump strongly praised Israel, calling it “a great ally” of the United States while highlighting its military resolve.
Describing Israel as “courageous, bold, loyal and smart,” Trump contrasted it with other allies, saying Israel “fights hard and knows how to win,” in an apparent swipe at some NATO countries.
His remarks come amid reports that he surprised Israeli leadership, including Benjamin Netanyahu, with a social media post suggesting the US had restrained Israel from launching strikes on Lebanon. The post reportedly contradicted details of the ceasefire agreement released by the State Department, prompting Israel to seek clarification from Washington. Netanyahu was said to be taken aback by the statement.
Strait of Hormuz tensions deepen
Trump’s comments coincided with rising friction over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route. Iran briefly reopened the passage before shutting it again, citing a US naval blockade.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned vessels against approaching the strait, stating any such move would be treated as hostile. In response, Trump accused Tehran of attempting to “blackmail” the US and insisted Washington would not be pressured over control of the key shipping lane.
Ceasefire under strain
Meanwhile, the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire appears increasingly fragile. Israeli forces have carried out fresh strikes in southern Lebanon, targeting what they described as emerging threats. Reports also indicate continued artillery shelling and gunfire across several border villages, along with new airstrikes, signaling a renewed risk of escalation in the region.
With multiple flashpoints — from maritime security in the Gulf to cross-border hostilities — the broader conflict landscape remains volatile despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
