Disha Salian’s Father Sends ₹500-Crore Defamation Notice To Aaditya Thackeray

Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian, has issued a ₹500-crore defamation notice to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray over statements concerning his daughter’s death and his demand for a fresh investigation into the case. A similar notice has also been sent to former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh.

The legal notice accuses Thackeray and Deshmukh of making and disseminating what Salian describes as false, malicious and defamatory statements, including portraying his pursuit of a fresh investigation as politically motivated. The notice reportedly seeks an unconditional public apology, withdrawal of the statements and ₹500 crore in damages, with a seven-day deadline for compliance.

What Triggered The Defamation Notice?

The notice comes after Aaditya Thackeray publicly denied ever meeting or knowing Disha Salian and described attempts to link him to her death as part of what he called a false campaign and an effort at character assassination.

According to reports, Thackeray’s legal representatives had also argued that Satish Salian was being used as a tool to harass the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader. Salian’s legal notice disputes that characterization and maintains that his actions are aimed at seeking a legal investigation into his daughter’s death.

Disha Salian Case And CBI FIR

Disha Salian, a former celebrity manager associated with actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a residential building in Mumbai. Her death occurred days before Rajput’s death on June 14, 2020, leading to years of public speculation about a possible connection between the two cases.

The Bombay High Court on September 2 directed that Salian’s father’s complaint be treated as an FIR and investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI subsequently registered an FIR on September 14.

The case has since triggered competing claims. Satish Salian has sought a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death, while Aaditya Thackeray has denied any connection with her and rejected allegations linking him to the case.

What The Notice Demands

The legal notice reportedly seeks:

• ₹500 crore in damages from Aaditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh.
• An unconditional public apology.
• Withdrawal or retraction of the statements that Satish Salian considers defamatory.
• Compliance with the demands within seven days.

The notice represents a fresh legal development in a case that has remained under intense political and public scrutiny for more than six years. The allegations contained in the legal proceedings remain subject to investigation and adjudication.
