Thank you very much.”

Amar Singh Chamkila: Plot and Where to Watch

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film explores Chamkila’s journey from a Dalit Sikh family in Punjab to becoming a musical icon known for his provocative lyrics, love, and rebellion, before his tragic assassination at the age of 27. Released on Netflix on April 12, 2024, the biopic captures both his meteoric rise and untimely demise.

This year, Diljit competes against actors including David Mitchell, Oriol Pla, and Diego Vasquez, making the category highly anticipated. The nomination underscores the global recognition of Indian cinema and the international impact of regional stories.

India at the Emmys

India has previously made history at the International Emmys. Netflix’s Delhi Crime won Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmy Awards in 2020. Created by Richie Mehta, the series depicted the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case and the police investigation led by DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, portrayed by Shefali Shah.

The nominations for Amar Singh Chamkila continue India’s growing influence on the international stage.
