Delhi Records Coldest Day of the Season as Winter Rain Hits City, Noida and Gurugram
Parts of Delhi, Noida and Gurugram received light rain on Friday, intensifying cold wave conditions across the National Capital Region, as Delhi recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season at 4.6°C.
Despite the rain, dense fog continued to blanket Delhi-NCR, reducing visibility across several areas, visuals from the region showed.
The rainfall came a day after Delhi logged a minimum temperature of 5.8°C on Thursday, the third-lowest reading of the winter, measured at the Safdarjung observatory. The temperature was 1.1 degrees below normal, while maximum temperatures across the city also remained lower than seasonal averages, sustaining a sharp chill throughout the day.
Cold Days in Delhi So Far in 2026
Delhi began 2026 under cold wave and dense fog conditions. The first cold day of the year was recorded on January 6, when the minimum temperature dipped to 7.6°C, about 0.7 degrees below normal.
A second cold day followed on January 7, when the maximum temperature fell to 16.7°C, around 2.3 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at 8.6°C, 1.7 degrees below the seasonal average, according to news agency PTI.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines a cold day as one when the minimum temperature falls below 10°C, or when the maximum temperature is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees below normal.
Weather officials said cold wave conditions are likely to persist as fog and low temperatures continue to grip the region.
