Delhi Police on Wednesday took self-styled ‘godman’ Chaitanyananda Saraswati, accused of sexually harassing at least 17 students at a private institute in Vasant Kunj, back to the campus and recovered a sex toy, pornographic CDs, and forged photographs with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former US President Barack Obama, and a UK leader.

The 62-year-old, former head of the Shri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, was arrested in Agra after absconding for nearly two months. Investigators said they had also retrieved “lewd” chats from his phone with multiple women. In one exchange shortly before his arrest, he allegedly asked a woman: “One Dubai Sheikh wants a sex partner, do you have any nice friend?”

Police said Saraswati’s office had been set up like a luxury suite to lure women. He allegedly targeted victims with false promises of jobs as flight stewards or at his institute, while gifting jewellery and asking for personal photos and yoga videos.

On Monday and Wednesday, police searched the campus with him, seizing pornographic material and uncovering evidence of surveillance of female students and staff. Officers also said he used his aides — female wardens of the institute — to intimidate victims and delete his messages from their phones.

Photos of the accused with flight attendants and screenshots of women’s social media profiles were also found on his devices. Police teams have since tracked his movements across Bageshwar, Almora, and other locations while he was absconding.

Saraswati allegedly invoked powerful names, including the Chief Justice of India and the Prime Minister’s Office, to shield himself from scrutiny.

He was remanded to five-day police custody on Sunday for further questioning.
