Delhi Police Issue Traffic Advisory Ahead of Lionel Messi’s Visit to National Capital
Ahead of football icon Lionel Messi’s visit to Delhi on Monday, the Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory for areas around the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where the main event of his India tour in the capital is scheduled to take place.
Messi is set to begin the final leg of his India tour in Delhi. While earlier reports suggested that he might meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the visit, the Prime Minister departed on a three-nation foreign tour on Monday morning, making such a meeting unlikely.
Traffic restrictions and diversions
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the Delhi Traffic Police announced traffic diversions on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Marg. It also stated that heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the stretch from Daryaganj to Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, and from Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road.
In a post on X, the traffic police urged commuters to avoid JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, citing heavy movement expected due to the Argentine football legend’s visit.
Event at Arun Jaitley Stadium
The highlight of Messi’s Delhi visit will be an event at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where he is scheduled to felicitate teams from Minerva Academy that have won three youth trophies.
Delhi Police have also shared designated entry and exit points for fans who have purchased tickets to attend the event.
Parking restrictions
Parking has been prohibited around the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with towing and fines to be enforced for violations. Commuters and attendees have been advised to use public transport, including the Delhi Metro and buses, to minimise congestion and ensure smooth movement in the area.
