Notorious gangster Romil Vohra, wanted in multiple cases of murder, extortion, and arms smuggling, was shot dead in a police encounter near the Delhi-Haryana border in the early hours of Tuesday, officials confirmed.

The encounter, led by the Delhi Police Special Cell’s Counter-Intelligence Unit, left two sub-inspectors — Pravin and Rohan — injured during the exchange of gunfire. Both officers are currently hospitalized and under medical observation.

Vohra, a key member of the Kala Rana-Noni Rana gang, was carrying a ₹1 lakh reward announced by the Haryana government. He was most recently wanted for the June 14 shooting of Shantanu, a liquor businessman operating across 12 districts in Haryana. He was also linked to a triple murder case in Yamunanagar.

Attempted Escape Turns Deadly

The operation was launched following intelligence shared by Haryana Police, which indicated Vohra’s presence near the border area. Acting on this tip-off, a joint team from Delhi and Haryana Police moved in during the night of June 23–24.

As the team closed in around Dera Mandi, Vohra reportedly opened fire in a bid to escape. Police retaliated, resulting in fatal injuries to Vohra. According to a senior officer quoted by PTI, “Vohra fired at the joint team when they tried to nab him at dawn. He was shot in the retaliatory firing and later succumbed to his injuries.”

The incident has been registered and further investigations are underway, officials said.

This marks a major breakthrough in the crackdown on organized crime networks operating across Delhi and Haryana.
