Delhi Drenched as Heavy Rain Triggers Waterlogging; IMD Issues Red Alert
Delhi woke up Saturday to heavy rain that left several parts of the city waterlogged and disrupted traffic. Areas including Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar saw intense showers, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the day.
The alert covers North, West, South, South East, and Central Delhi, warning of very heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms. Waterlogging was reported at Panchkuian Marg, Minto Road, Mathura Road, and Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7, ANI said.
In the NCR, a red alert was issued for Ghaziabad, while Gautambudhnagar is under a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning. The IMD expects partly cloudy skies with light rain and thundershowers through the day, with Delhi’s maximum temperature forecast at 32–34°C and the minimum at 24–26°C.
The Met office posted on X that moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning is “very likely” across most of Delhi-NCR, with lighter rain expected in Gohana, Sonipat, Rohtak, Sohana, Palwal, Nuh, Aurangabad, and nearby areas.
In Haryana, an orange alert is in place for Palwal, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. The IMD has also warned of continued heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh, with an orange alert for August 11–12 in three districts and a yellow alert elsewhere.
