Delhi CM Rekha Gupta holds first Jan Sunwai since attack, amid tight security

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday conducted her first Jan Sunwai at her Civil Lines camp office under heavy security, weeks after a man attacked her over the Supreme Court’s order on stray dogs.

The programme began at 8 a.m., with residents from across the city presenting grievances and submitting applications to the CM. Police and security personnel formed a tight perimeter around Gupta, who sat behind a table while individuals approached her one by one. Security measures included metal detector checks, CCTV monitoring, and a ban on phones, cameras, and spectacles inside the venue. Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia was on-site to oversee arrangements.

The heightened security follows the August 20 incident when Rajesh Sakriya, from Rajkot, Gujarat, lunged at Gupta during a previous Jan Sunwai. Sakriya, reportedly upset over the Supreme Court’s order relocating Delhi-NCR stray dogs to shelters, was subdued by security and the public. The CM was unharmed.
