Veer, who was bought after a bidding war involving Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, said Dhoni’s advice was simple and telling: save money and avoid unnecessary spending.

“Right now, we haven’t spoken much about cricket. He told me to save my money and not spend it unnecessarily,” Veer told Sportstar — a remark that stood out for its trademark Dhoni simplicity and practicality.

For a young player entering one of the most high-profile dressing rooms in the Indian Premier League after a life-changing deal, the message was less about finances and more about perspective. In a tournament where price tags often shape expectations before a ball is bowled, Dhoni’s advice underscored the importance of staying grounded amid sudden success.

Veer has been brought in by the five-time champions as a successor to Ravindra Jadeja, who was traded to the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2026 auction.
