CSK-RR Blockbuster Trade: Jadeja, Samson, and Curran Swap Awaits BCCI Clearance
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are closing in on a sensational player swap involving Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Sanju Samson, but the blockbuster deal remains pending final approval from the BCCI. While the framework is in place, the trade cannot be formalised until the board completes its regulatory process.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the proposed deal has entered the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage under IPL Player Regulations, triggering the mandatory 48-hour processing window — even though no official announcement has yet been made.
All Three Players Have Given Consent
Sources confirmed that both franchises have secured consent from all three players. “All three have signed on the dotted line,” a franchise official said, adding that the move “will take some time to culminate.” The EOI has been filed, but as of Monday evening, neither team had formally notified the IPL or BCCI hierarchy.
Under IPL trade rules, the initiating franchise must file an EOI with the BCCI, which then contacts the other team involved. Once both sides agree and the players give written consent, negotiations — including potential changes to contract values — are permitted. The trade only becomes official after BCCI approval.
Curran’s Overseas Status Adds Complexity
Because Sam Curran is an overseas player, an additional clearance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) may be required before the trade can be finalised, as per IPL norms governing foreign player transfers.
A High-Stakes Swap
This is one of the costliest trades in IPL history — Jadeja and Samson are both INR 18 crore retentions for CSK and RR, respectively, while Curran was picked for INR 2.4 crore at the last mega auction. Sources say RR initially requested Dewald Brevis or Matheesha Pathirana, but after CSK declined, Curran’s name entered the mix alongside Jadeja.
Raina Urges CSK to Reconsider
The possible exit of Ravindra Jadeja, a CSK stalwart, has divided fans and pundits. Former CSK star Suresh Raina publicly urged the franchise to retain him, calling Jadeja “a gun player for CSK” who “has to be there going forward.”
For now, the deal’s fate hinges on how quickly the BCCI processes the paperwork — a decision that could reshape the IPL landscape ahead of the 2026 season.
