COP 30: High-Level Baku Dialogue to Fast-Track Global Water–Climate Action

5

The High-level Meeting of the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action will take place during the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 30), serving as the official launchpad for putting the Dialogue’s commitments into action. The meeting aims to turn pledges into coordinated, measurable efforts that strengthen the climate–water agenda well beyond 2030.

Co-hosted by the COP 30 and COP 29 Presidencies and supported by UNEP, UNECE, and WMO, the event will formalize the Baku Dialogue as a long-term mechanism for systemic change in the water–climate nexus.

First introduced at COP 29, the Baku Dialogue was created to accelerate solutions to the global water crisis and keep water at the center of discussions on climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and desertification. It emphasizes action at global, regional, and river-basin levels.

The COP 30 meeting will:

  • Highlight progress since COP 29

  • Enable member states and stakeholders to present new commitments

  • Build momentum for integrating water into climate policies, including NDCs, NAPs, and NBSAPs
