“Carlos Alcaraz’s US Open Triumph Prompts Federer Record Warning from Wilander”
Tennis great Mats Wilander believes Carlos Alcaraz has a “good chance” of equaling Roger Federer’s tally of 20 Grand Slam titles after the Spaniard claimed his sixth major with a four-set victory over Jannik Sinner in the US Open final on Sunday.
The 22-year-old became the youngest man to win multiple Slams on three different surfaces and the second-youngest in history to reach six majors, behind Bjorn Borg. The victory also returned him to the world No. 1 spot for the fifth time.
Wilander, a seven-time major champion, praised Alcaraz’s flawless run in New York, where he lost just one set and was broken only three times in seven matches.
“He’ll win so much more… will he win 20 Slams? There is a good chance he will,” Wilander told TNT Sports.
With two Slams in 2025 — including a French Open title defense — Alcaraz has reaffirmed his status as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic’s natural heir.
Wilander lauded not only Alcaraz’s game but also his demeanor:
“He’s so nice, so humble, so youthful. He’s a great ambassador for our sport.”
