Carlos Alcaraz pulls out of French Open with wrist injury, calls it a “complicated moment”
Carlos Alcaraz will not defend his French Open title this year after a right wrist injury ruled him out of the tournament.
The two-time defending champion confirmed on Friday that he will also skip the Italian Open in Rome, which he won last year.
The world No. 2 sustained the injury during his opening-round match at the Barcelona Open earlier this month and withdrew soon after. He had already pulled out of the Madrid Open and was seen attending the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid with his wrist immobilised, where he was named World Sportsman of the Year.
Following further medical tests, Alcaraz said the decision to withdraw from both tournaments was taken as a precaution.
“After the results of the tests carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing is to be cautious and not participate in Rome and Roland Garros,” he wrote on X.
Calling it a difficult moment, the Spaniard added that he remains optimistic about returning stronger after recovery.
