Exactly a year after their unforgettable T20 World Cup victory in Barbados, the Indian cricket team took a nostalgic pause in Birmingham to relive that iconic night — a moment that ended over a decade of heartbreak and restored India’s status as ICC champions.

On June 29, 2025, members of the victorious 2024 squad, now part of India’s touring party in England, gathered at a Birmingham restaurant to mark the anniversary ahead of the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston. The celebration, captured in a heartwarming video shared by the BCCI, featured laughter, banter, and two commemorative cakes — one reading “Team India”, the other “Champions T20 WC 2024.”

What stood out was the camaraderie. Players jokingly hesitated over who would cut the cakes, with Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj nudging each other to take the first slice. Ultimately, Jasprit Bumrah — the hero of that final with two clutch overs that shifted the game against South Africa — took charge, just like he did on the field a year ago. Siraj followed, encouraged by Arshdeep’s playful “Paaji, kaato na.”

The celebration also carried a tinge of reflection. Pant jokingly reminded Ravindra Jadeja that it was also the one-year anniversary of his retirement from T20 internationals — a decision Jadeja made alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after the final. Jadeja was quick with his comeback, pointing out that he’s still very much active in Tests and ODIs.

The players then shared cake and smiles, a symbolic gesture that captured the significance of the moment. After years of near-misses, this squad had finally delivered a world title — and a year later, the joy still lingered.

Whether this unity and spirit can fuel a turnaround after India’s opening Test loss to England remains to be seen. But for one night in Birmingham, the focus was purely on celebration — and on remembering a night that made history.
