Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation at 3 Delhi Schools, Searches Underway
Several schools in the national capital received bomb threats on Monday morning, prompting swift evacuations and large-scale security checks.
Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka, Modern Convent School, and ShreeRam World School in Sector 10, Dwarka, were among those that received threatening emails, officials said. Police, bomb disposal squads, and the Delhi Fire Service rushed to the campuses and began thorough searches.
“All students and staff have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Search operations are underway,” a Delhi Police officer said.
The scare comes amid a spate of similar hoax threats in recent months. On July 18, more than 50 schools across Delhi received bomb threat emails in a single morning, sparking panic and widespread evacuations. Among them were St Xavier’s in Civil Lines, Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, Abhinav Public School in Rohini, and The Sovereign School in Rohini.
Earlier in July, threats had also targeted St Stephen’s College and St Thomas School in Dwarka, a day after three other institutions reported similar emails. At least seven schools were hit on July 17, marking the third consecutive day of such incidents.
Police later traced one of the hoax emails to a 12-year-old boy in south Delhi who admitted sending it as a prank. He was questioned, counselled, and released.
Although all previous threats proved to be hoaxes, the repeated incidents have alarmed parents and school authorities. AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticised the Centre and BJP-led civic administration last month, saying: “Think of the trauma that children, parents and teachers would be going through. BJP controls all four engines of governance in Delhi, and is yet not able to provide any safety or security to our children! Shocking!”
Officials said precautionary evacuations will continue to be the standard response until each threat is fully verified. Investigations are underway to trace the source of Monday’s email to DPS Dwarka.
