‘Bol Dega, Sorry Bol Denge’: Rahul Gandhi Dares PM Modi to Call Trump a Liar in Parliament
A heated confrontation unfolded in Parliament on Tuesday during the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor, as senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning both the government’s military strategy and its silence on former US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of mediating peace between India and Pakistan.
Rahul Gandhi: “Where is the Political Will?”
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, sharply criticised the Modi government’s handling of Operation Sindoor. “If you want to effectively use the Indian Armed Forces, you need 100% political will and full operational freedom,” he said, pointing to what he described as a lack of clarity and resolve.
Citing historical precedent, Gandhi recalled the leadership shown by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. “When the US Seventh Fleet moved towards India, Indira Gandhi told General Manekshaw to take six months or even a year—whatever he needed. That is what freedom of action looks like. That is what true political will is.”
Challenges PM to Confront Trump’s Claims
Taking the attack further, Rahul Gandhi directly challenged Prime Minister Modi to publicly reject Donald Trump’s assertions that he mediated between India and Pakistan. “If he has the courage, let him say here in this House that Donald Trump is lying,” Gandhi said, using a mix of Hindi and English to underscore his point. “Why is the Prime Minister silent? If Trump is lying, say it in Parliament. Say it now.”
Kharge Echoes Demand in Rajya Sabha
Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, echoed Rahul Gandhi’s demand for accountability, questioning the Modi government’s continued silence over Trump’s statements. “Trump has claimed not once or twice, but 29 times, that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan,” Kharge said. “Why has the government never issued a categorical denial? By the time I finish this speech, he might have said it a 30th time.”
Kharge accused the government of compromising India’s diplomatic credibility by avoiding a clear stand, especially on matters that affect national honour and foreign policy.
Opposition Turns Up Heat
The Congress’s twin-pronged offensive in both Houses of Parliament intensified the political pressure on the government, shifting the Operation Sindoor debate beyond just military matters to include questions of political leadership, transparency, and India’s global positioning.
With the Modi government yet to officially respond to Trump’s mediation claims on the record in Parliament, the issue continues to stir controversy and demands for clarity.
